SWOT Analysis of Waste Recycling Empowerment (Lesson Learned From Local Community in Indonesia)

Today’s environmental issues are a main issue in development. This issues usually related to population issues. The increase of the population resulted in the increase of waste amount. The waste reduction initiative has been carried out by stakeholders. One of them is from the local community on environment issue which is active especially in waste management. In Indonesia, there are local communities that empower waste recycling, namely garbage creation communities and garbage banks. Both of these communities work in waste management and their action apparently can increase waste use value. The purpose of this study is to describe SWOT empowerment of waste recycling to be the best recommendation for strengthening the empowerment of waste recycling. Data was collected using a qualitative approach with documentation. The results obtained indicate that the opportunities and strengths of empowering large-scale recycling of waste but public awareness about increasing waste use value is still a challenge.
